Wallace Dibble

Wallace Dibble

(b.1999, Manhattan, NY)

In her painting practice, Wallace Dibble looks to create narratives from the photographic archives of strangers. With humor and restraint, Dibble's paintings look to mystify the visual language of everyday life, arriving at an uncanny realism. In 2022, Dibble earned a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. Subsequently, Dibble's artwork has been showcased in numerous galleries across the United States, with notable exhibitions at Thierry Goldberg in New York City and, most recently, at Guerrero Gallery in Los Angeles.

“ As a painter, you always look at things from the standpoint of, can I paint it? How will this look when I paint it? So I definitely have that like lens on when I'm looking through flicker.”

“ I didn't paint figurative for a really long time, and when I started painting people again I felt like I really wanted to go full throttle and paint everyone, and the party was the perfect way to get into that.”

“ When I plan a painting, I'll make a like a mockup on Photoshop, and that can also take like 10 hours— just finding the perfect place for everything. Sometimes I'll sew images together for the surface, I think it takes like 10 coats of gesso usually, and I have to be very careful about  taping everything out and making sure the mesh is stretched super tight. But when I'm actually painting, it's very traditional.”
